 ABOUT:

The Fiat Panda is a city car from the Italian automobile manufacturer Fiat. The first Fiat Panda was introduced in 1980, and was produced until 2003 with only a few changes. It is now sometimes referred to as the "old Panda". The second model, launched in 2003, is sometimes referred to as the "New Panda" or "Nuova Panda" (in Italian), and was the European Car of the Year in 2004. The third generation debuted at Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2011 and will be assembled in Italy at Pomigliano d'Arco. In over 31 years Fiat has sold over 6.5 million Pandas globally, with more than 4.5 million being the 1st series Panda.
The third Generation model with the all wheel drive just won the prestigious Award "SUV of the Year" by Top Gear Magazine.
In July 2008, Fiat successfully sued Great Wall and had the Peri banned from importation into Europe. In addition, the court order ruled for Great Wall to pay Fiat a 15,000 euro fine for the first Peri imported, and an additional 50,000 euros for every subsequent car that was imported.
However, on October 2009, Great Wall Motor sued Fiat, accusing the latter of espionage. In the lawsuit, Great Wall claims that "Fiat once instigated espionage to prowl into its research center and take photos of Peri small car that was still under developed."
Fiat presented the third generation of Panda at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2011. The new architecture is based on the Fiat Mini platform. The production of the new Panda begun in the renewed Pomigliano d'Arco Plant in the last quarter of 2011. The 4x4 Panda was introduced in the 2012 Paris Motor Show. Generally the older model(called Panda Classic) is more popular because of the much lower price(about 27%). Decision to choose the Italian manufacture(instead of cheaper workforce in Tychy, Poland) was made, because of the agreement between Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti and Fiat directors not to close any Fiat manufacture in Italy.
The new Panda was tested by Euro NCAP towards the end of 2011, and achieved a four star result (see table). One star was dropped mainly because the Panda`s electronic stability control wasn't available on the tested car. Fiat clarified on the same day that ESP will be offered on the entire Fiat Panda range in the first months of 2012.
