But in either iteration the new Golf is both a great highway cruiser and an entertaining B-road bruiser. You can paddle shift DSG into fifth or sixth and let the torque wave wash you from crest to brow, or you can dive deep into second and third gear territory from where the TSI unit will rev happily to 6500 rpm. At the end of the end of the day the petrol version feels fractionally more light-footed, chuck able and responsive than the diesel. Its broader rev band and the extra gear marginally outflank the 2.0 TDI’s 52lb ft torque advantage. Elements carried forward were in the main technical features that were already future proof in the previous model - for instance the six- and seven-speed direct shift gearbox (DSG). Everything else is new. And that 'new' really means new! For example, the engines: none of them was carried forward unmodified. To be precise, Volkswagen developed two completely new engine generations for the Golf. Every version is fitted as standard with a Stop/Start system (reducing fuel consumption by up to four per cent) and brake energy recovery mode (cutting CO2 by around four per cent).

The more powerful of the two knocks the best part of two seconds off that time and generally belies the 1.4-liter capacity. Given its relatively low asking price and decent economy, it is a sensible choice for someone who wants this car's looks with a modi com of performance.

Ferrari F70 is a name given by the automotive press to an anticipated sports car to be built by Ferrari. It is expected to be based on findings from testing of the Ferrari FXX and on research being conducted by the Millechili Project at the University of Modena. Association with the Millechili Project has led to speculation that Ferrari's next sports car will weigh 1,000 kg (2,205 lb) or less. The F70 will be the first hybrid vehicle from Ferrari, providing the highest horsepower of any Ferrari while decreasing fuel consumption by 40 percent. The F70's V12 is expected to have a 6.3 litre capacity with over 800 hp and will be supplemented by a 120 hp KERS unit, able to be used in short bursts. F70 are scarce, at best, and all we have seen in the form of visuals on it are some spy shots of its testing mule, which looks more like an Italia 458 with poorly placed metal slabs bolted onto it. The same rings true for the interior.It’s hard to tell exactly what the F70 will look like, but we definitely want to see more. The Enzo wasn't exactly pretty (it was more of a stealth warplane than a sculpture) and the F70 will probably be the same. Like the other modern Ferrari's, it will emphasize aerodynamic efficiency over styling, but there’s a beauty in that too. Either way, the most impressive thing about the F70 will be under the skin. It will reportedly use the 730 horsepower, 6.3-liter V12 from the F12 berlinetta, combined with a Formula 1-style Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS).On the backside of the seven-speed trans, you have a high-power traction motor. This motor electrifies the seven-speed trans, adding to the power the engine delivers to it. Attached to the gasoline engine is an auxiliary generator that charges the batteries, as needed. Lastly, on top of the transmission is the hybrid power unit, which features two inverters and a smart cooling system.Formula 1 cars use a spinning flywheel to store the electricity generated under braking, but the F70 could use a lithium-ion battery pack instead. An electric motor will kick in some extra power, which could push the F70 past the 800 hp mark. This crazy technology plops down a whopping 920 combined horsepower and a 0 to 200 km/h (124 mph) time of 6.5 seconds. This also drops the CO2 emissions by a whopping 40 percent, 10 percent more.

The 458 Italia's sublime driving dynamics possible is a rigid, lightweight aluminum chassis that features advanced alloys and aerospace industry manufacturing and bonding techniques. The suspension is composed of a twin wishbone/multi-link setup, and an electronic rear differential helps apportion power so as to make the best of use of available traction. Standard carbon fiber brakes are extremely fade-resistant and effective at bringing the 458 Spider down from extra-legal speeds.The aluminum hardtop can be lowered or raised in just 14 seconds. Ferrari says that the aluminum roof, the first such application on a mid-rear-engine sports car, saves around 55 lbs. Although a read between the lines here might give us cause for concern, our experiences with previous Ferrari Spiders (the 360 and the 430) tells us that the new 458 Spider will not even be remotely close to a boulevardier. Top up or down, the new 458 is said to have identical levels of structural rigidity. Fully integrated into the styling of the car, the hard-top was engineered to fit neatly ahead of the engine bay without compromising aerodynamics or the performance of the car.The rear of the car is characterized by innovative forms with the buttresses designed to optimize the flow of air to the engine intakes and the clutch and gearbox oil radiators.The design was perfected to slow and diffuse the air in the cockpit, enabling normal conversation to be held even at speeds over 200 km/h.n order to free up real estate for the large paddle shifters, Ferrari has done away with steering wheel-mounted stalks and relocated a host of secondary controls to the steering wheel. The Cadillac XLR was a luxury roadster marketed by the Cadillac division of General Motors, assembled in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Intended to be Cadillac's flagship sports car, the XLR was based on the Chevrolet Corvette's Y platform. The XLR featured its own unique styling, interior, and suspension, and power-retractable aluminum hardtop, along with the Cadillac North star engine. The XLR ended production after the 2009 model year.
Cadillac introduced the XLR at the 2003 Detroit Motor Show and began production in the 2004 model year foreshadowed by the Evoq concept vehicle. The XLR features as standard equipment heated and cooled leather seats, wood interior trim, remote key less access, 18 inch alloy wheels, side airbags as well as a navigation, audio, and DVD system sharing a 7-inch dashboard screen. The retractable hardtop itself is constructed of aluminum, requires 6'-10 1/2" of vertical clearance during retraction, and is manufactured by a supplier joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and Porsche. The engine is Cadillac's 4.6 L North star tuned for 320 hp (238.6 kW; 324.4 PS), mated as of the 2007 model year to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The XLR was the second roadster offered by Cadillac in recent years. The first was the Cadillac All ante, produced from 1987 to 1993. The XLR was nominated for the North American Car of the Year award for 2004.
The Cadillac XLR-V was the high performance version of the XLR. It was an ultra-luxury segment car, first introduced in 2005. It was the successor to the Cadillac Allanté, produced from 1987 to 1993. Cadillac gave the public its first glimpse of the supercharged XLR-V in its Super Bowl commercial, which aired February 6, 2005. Super Bowl MVP Deion Branch was also awarded an XLR. The car was formally introduced at the 2005 New York International Auto Show. The XLR- V should be easy to distinguish from the XLR, thanks to the raised center section of the hood, which shelters supercharger-related hardware, and the trademark V-series mesh grille. The XLR-V used the same supercharged North star V8 as the STS-V, though output was down somewhat. For the XLR-V, the engine was certified by the SAE to produce 443 hp (330 kW) and 414 lb·ft (561 N·m). The supercharger and four inter coolers were built into the intake manifold. A six-speed automatic transmission, larger brakes from the Z51 Corvette, and 19-inch wheels were used. The XLR-V could accelerate to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 4.6 seconds. The magazine also timed it at 11.3 seconds to 100 mph (161 km/h) and recorded a 13.0 second quarter mile at 110 mph (177 km/h). Its top speed was electronically limited to 155 mph (249 km/h).

It was introduced in 2002 as a sports sedan, succeeding the Cadillac Catera. The CTS and the supercharged CTS-V variant had been named to the Car and Driver 10 Best list for three consecutive years. Also standard is On Star, which includes automatic crash notification, on-demand roadside assistance, an emergency button, stolen vehicle locator and active intervention, and remote door unlock. The optional navigation system emerges from the top of the dash and retracts almost fully, leaving a small section visible as a touchscreen display for the audio system a smart and elegant alternative solution to having a separate control panel. We also appreciate that Cadillac provides a redundant control knob for scrolling through iPod or satellite radio menus. Many find the driving position awkward because of slightly offset pedals, a low-mounted seat and compromised knee room due to the sweeping center stack. Overall comfort is also hampered by flat and stiff seat backs. The 2013 Cadillac CTS comes with a choice of two V6 engines, though most test drivers suggest avoiding the base 3.0-liter engine and opting for the larger 3.6-liter V6, which offers more power and similar fuel economy.
